While people continue to stay in overpriced hotels and spend more than they anticipated at the time of check out, there are other great alternatives that a large percent have already switched to for their getaways. This alternative is renting vacation homes and timeshares. According to a marketing report made by HomeAway, Inc, 87% of travelers who looked into a vacation rental in the past say that they will be booking their stay in a vacation rental in 2010. Last year the numbers only pulled about 67% who said they will be booking their stay for 2009, which is a 20% increase. Out of the people who traveled in 2009, over 75% of them previously stayed in a vacation rental and the rest were first time renters.
While many people might be unable to justify spending the money for a getaway this year, more than 28% of travelers say that the down economy will not affect their traveling plans in 2010. Instead, people will look for new ways to save such as vacation bundles and renting timeshares from private owners. Other ways that travelers plan to save money in 2010 is by sharing accommodations with more people to help the price, vacation at destinations within driving distance from home and even shorten their getaway to minimize the number of nights they would pay for being out-of-town.
When planning a vacation, it's important that you book everything far enough in advance to avoid any issues. The average “booking window” has risen from 76 days ahead of time in 2009's second quarter, to an average of 94 days in the third quarter. This incline shows that people are taking the time to plan their trips a little more to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Vacation timeshare rentals make traveling easier and much cheaper for people looking to get the best “bang for their buck”. By offering exotic locations for low prices, booking your dream vacation rental can be only a few clicks away.
